Runway of Dreams

We recently welcomed guest speaker Mindy Scheier, founder of the Runway of Dreams Foundation. The origin of RODF is at the intersection of personal experience and professional expertise. Mindy is a fashion designer and the mother of a child with a disability. When her son, who has a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy, wanted to wear jeans like his friends, she soon realized that others around the world struggled to find accessible fashionable clothing. She imagined: what if adaptive clothing went mainstream? What if designers considered the needs of the differently-abled community? You can read more about RODF's mission and its recent partnership with Tommy Hilfiger called Tommy Adaptive.

Ava Salerno '18 and Claire Coffey '18, co-Presidents of the AOSE Fashion Club (pictured here with Mindy and Mrs. Burek), introduced the program. "As a club, our mission is to bring together a group of young women who share the same passion towards fashion that we do while using creativity and imagination. Our club focuses on making sure that everyone is included and has a safe place to express themselves. We think that our mission fits in perfectly with what Runway of Dreams is all about. Mindy‚Äôs foundation is also a way to include ALL people -- including those with disabilities -- making sure that there is a place for everyone in the fashion industry. It reminds us of what we all have in common."
