Academy Traditions

We have so many unique and long-standing traditions here at the Academy. Below are just a few of the events that mark each year at AOSE.

Academy Traditions

Mother-Daughter Tea

We dress up and enjoy a Fall afternoon of good food and good company.

Halloween Party

You haven’t seen Halloween until you’ve seen an Academy costume contest.

Alma Mater Competition

Each class writes and performs a skit that showcases the Academy alma mater.

Junior Ring Ceremony

A special celebration in the Chapel as the Juniors received their class rings.

Senior Retreat

Each class has a retreat day centered on friendship, reflection, and faith.

Christmas at the Academy

The most wonderful time of the year is celebrated with a most wonderful party.

Calendar Party

Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Senior each claim a seasonal theme, then compete class v. class to throw the most festive celebration.

Fashion Show

For 35 years, this event has been the highlight of the Academy year. A lavish dinner and gift auction complete this evening, a special celebration of the graduating class.

Travel Abroad

Our foreign travel program is a singular distinction of Academy life. For more than thirty years, our girls tour Europe for two weeks around Easter. These annual trips complement the girls’ Academy education, offering a deeper understanding of culture, language, history, geography, art, and science than books and discussion can impart.

Field Day

A spirited day of competition to close out the academic year.

School Trip

Will it be a Broadway show? A trip to Baltimore? A museum tour? Each year it’s different.

Spirit Week

We show off our Panther Pride with a week of special games, contests, and activities.
