Victoria Enea '20 Wins National Award

Victoria is one of only five winners nationwide! You can read more about the contest HERE

This year's contest asked high school freshmen and sophomores to respond to one of several different prompts on this year's competition book, Lord of the Flies. Victoria read the William Golding classic last year in English with Mrs. Quick, who submitted Victoria's essay to the contest on behalf of her student.

Of course, Academy students know that learning for learning's sake is reward enough. But the contest's sponsor very generously insists otherwise. Victoria's prize is $1,000 in scholarship money, as well as a Penguin Classics library for our school. Victoria also received a congratulatory letter from Golding's daughter, who administers his literary estate. Congratulations, Victoria, and thank you so much for the new additions to our library collection. Our entire learning community will enjoy this gift of literary treasures.

[Editor's note: Victoria and her very proud teacher are pictured above. When asked to pose for a portrait to accompany this article, Victoria insisted on including Mrs. Quick, "because she's the reason why I succeeded in this contest." True story.]
