Elizabeth Kilgore '19 Wins Prestigious Scholarship

The Academy of Saint Elizabeth joins the University of Virginia in congratulating Elizabeth Kilgore '19, a recipient of the Jefferson Scholarship. This prestigious award covers every imaginable cost -- tuition, books, study abroad, enrichment programs, travel -- for the duration of Elizabeth's undergraduate education at UVA.

Competition for this scholarship began at the regional level. Eventually, North Jersey sent just two applicants to "Finalist Weekend," which brought together 118 candidates from all across the globe. Elizabeth reports that this campus visit was a busy time. "Activities, interviews, formal dinners, seminars, a timed essay, a math/logic exam, guest speakers and more, all organized by the Jefferson Scholars Foundation, which aimed to 'tell, not sell' the University. They presented UVA in its best light, giving us ample opportunity to explore its grounds, classes, professors, and student life. I spent the weekend with 117 other finalists from across the nation and around the world. I was genuinely humbled and inspired by the other finalists, who not only have already accomplished many great feats, but will undoubtedly rock the world in one way or another in their futures. I feel blessed to have met so many dynamic and remarkable high schoolers."

Beyond the financial reward attached to this designation is something even more valuable. With this honor, the Jefferson Scholars Foundation recognizes Elizabeth as an individual of "extraordinary intellectual range and depth who possesses the highest concomitant qualities of leadership, scholarship, and citizenship." We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
