Principal's Welcome

Upon entering the Academy of Saint Elizabeth, a wave of memories swept over me and I knew this was the place for me.
As a young girl growing up with the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in Bardstown, Kentucky, surrounded by the Sisters and my great-aunts, Sister Charles Catherine and Sister Mary Flaget, I gained a deep love of Catholicism that helped shape my identity and inspired my lifelong love of learning. Each decision and experience along the way has prepared me for this next phase of my career. It is through these experiences that I hope to inspire that same love in others.

As I write this first letter to you, I am humbled, grateful and filled with excitement at the thought of being selected as the thirteenth principal of the Academy of Saint Elizabeth. What an honor! Mentoring and leading young people has never been my job but always my vocation. I am passionate about my work, and I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich history of academic excellence and empowering young women in a Catholic setting, both inside and outside of the classroom.

I look forward to sharing and learning alongside a talented and passionate faculty and staff. I especially look forward to meeting and developing meaningful relationships with the students– our next generation of leaders.

I would like to thank the Principal Search Committee of the Academy of Saint Elizabeth’s Board of Trustees, led by Deborah Baseil, and its members, Katherine Lordi, Sister Patricia Butler, Monique Degnan, Mariel Gesualdo and Antoinette Plewa, for the thorough and thoughtful interview process. I would also like to especially thank Sister Maureen Shaughnessy, SC, General Superior, and Sister Noreen Neary, SC, Chairwoman of Seton Ministries, for their inspiration and for sharing their love of the Academy with me. I am confident our partnership will continue the great successes established under the leadership of Mrs. Lynn Burek and will strengthen as we celebrate our accomplishments and work through our challenges, together.

I am thrilled to start this journey, working and learning with you all. It is the highlight of my career. I pray that you are all richly blessed with good health and happiness and I look forward to meeting you in the coming months.

Kind regards,

Dr. Beth Azar
